I will start with some descriptions
Samwise Gamgee aka the dog, Gamg, G, little fella.
This is one hell of an adventurous cat. He is just like a dog, hence his nickname. We have had people
deliver things to us or work in our house for us and he will be locked away in a room. Whenever he hears someone new he wants
to gallop up to them and sniff and get some pats if feels like them at the time. He was locked up one particular time and
some delivery guys were picking up the hospital bed in our lonuge room. He scratched at the door and started kind of butting
into it making a huge racket. The guys asked "oh have you got your dog locked up ?" Danielle then replied, "nope, that is
just my nutty cat". They then exchanged funny glances.
this is not very cat behaviour, he should hide or run away at approaching people. Instead he bolts
at them and sniffs them for new smells, also there is not much that scares him. The vaccuum did for a while and still does
almost, but he is getting over that as it happens more. Every other thing that has scared him he gets over way too quick.
I found a noise I could make scared him off from attacking Pancakes. I did said noise for roughly once a day for a week and
he was over it, Liitle poo bum that he is !
He does like some love like a normal cat might, but he does take it sometimes whilst he is purring
and attacking you at the same time. Whether it be your arms that is patting him or hey even your face, expecially your nose
in particular!
He is however incredibly intelligent, I have never seen it personally in an animal myself. Yes, it
sounds like I am biased right ? Well I don't mind telling you that Pancakes is definetly not the sharpest tool in the shed
by a long long way.
He can use his intelligence in many ways. One is his main efforts in the pursuit of illegal food,
we feed him enough as the food packaging tells us. He however believe he needs more, he will try with ever waking minute to
guile his way to get food somehow. At the time of this being written we currently keep Cakes' food in my bedside drawers,
we fill up her container to the brim and she eats it as she needs it. Unlike gutso who would polish it off in one. Anyway
we keep it there mainly for the 5;30 am meal call by Gamgee, he wakes us up for food and she may as well be fed as well.
Anytime of the day whether he be sleeping or resting or going nuts doing laps around the house, he
will stop at the drop of a hat at the sound of my drawers open and run into my room looking to scavenge food out of the drawers.
Hey I could be getting jocks out form another draw but he will sprint in hope reaguardless. He then battles me to get into
the drawer and get some food out even if there is none, he will aim for the drawer below by way of stealth by trying to stick
his paw down into the food drawer whilst the drawer above is open. He is truly an amzing cat.
He also shows his intelligence in another way that I didn't believe myself for a little while until
i sait myself. Danielle told me he was kissing her literally with his lips and not his nose as we have taught him. No, for
you out there with your mind in the gutter it is not kitten porn, he kisses on the cheeks and forhead. The amaing thing is
th reason behind this is that he has recieved many kisses from both Danielle and I on the top of his head and has picked
up what we actually do to kiss. He has then recreated this himself and kisses back now. It was amazing when I first saw it
as it wasn't something we set out to tech him at all. He picked it up none the less !
Midnight Pancakes aka Cakey, little one, and Pannnnncakkkkkeyyyyyy!!!!
To describe her looks I think you have to think of a bitsa cat, she is part ginger, part tabby,
and part tortoise shell. She is one different looking cat.
This is one loving, loyal kitten. Yes loyal, Danielle has told me about the usual nature of cats
and how if your are upset they can sense it (ie looking at your tears for instance!) and most cats will bolt the other way
(Gamgee!). Pancakes however will approach you and almost try to see what is wrong, she will come up and try kiss your lips
with her nose and then snuggle up to you somewhere comfortable and pur whilst you pat her. She is a really affectionate cat
which we totally didn't expect on ioata.
We had aspirations of getting an equally adventurous cat as young gamgee and she has become that
but not before a rocky start, which we both believe has brought out the special loving that she shows us. She now is permanently
on anti histemines to keep her eating enough to live which actually work a treat, before this she was dropping wheight not
putting it on which is quite dangerous for a kitten. Now all seems well and she fights Gamgee and chases him around the house
and loves to perfom surprise attacks as often as possible, it is quite funny to sit there and watch these happen. She will
crouch behind something and listen to him jingle on in to a room, then once she see him she will pounce and either ran at
him or across his path. Now if Samwise isn't being a spoil sport at the time he will rear up and chirp in delight and
in a surprised tone.
She is sitting behing the screen of computer as I tap away and she is as normal to her character
rubbing up affectionately against an unamanute object, checking to make sure she can't get love from this object !
Stories and Happenings
Current Happenings
As I sit here typing I have already had a story happen. You see Gamgee is quite an intelligent cat,
he loves to mentally challenged and stimulated. He also has a massive gut hanging out for everyone to see and aims to pig
out as much as possible to keep this gut in good shape.
So I am sitting here and Danielle was distracted by me when I asked her to answer a question about
windows that one of my friends just asked me on the phone. She was in the progress of making us dinner which consisted of
roasted chicken with avocado in a sandwhich.
She had layed all the ingredients out and was just about to put the chicken on when I called her
away. So the chicken was out on the bench in a bowl.
She chatted to said friend for abuout 5 minutes and walked back to Gamgee gutsing down as much chicken
as his mouth would allow!!
This is not unusual beahviour from him at all, leave it unguarded and yoink it's gone !
The thing that gets to both Danielle and I the most is that after he is done and we pick him and
carry him away telling him he is a naughty bad boy. He licks his lips and doesn't really care about the consequences as we
tell him off. He does it in sort of a I don't care what you do know I have my fill way. Cheeky bastide that he is !
In the beggining
We went down to AAPS (animal shelter) and were searching for the most adventurous kitten of the bunch,
we figured it had to have these characteristics to be compatible with G.
We told the ladies at the shelter our situation and hpw we needed some company for a particuarly
nutty cat that we had. We needed a cat that was independent and seemed up for a bit of fun most of the time. They showed us
one Midnight Pancakes, not that she was named this when we got her.
One lady told us about how she had gotten bored of all the other kitties (all 15 of them) as they
weren't playful enough and escaped her cage somehow (they still aren't sure to this day how !!!) in the middle of the
night and went for a bit of an explore. They walked in the early morning to find her covered in cobwebs and sitting there
waiting for someone else to play with :).
This was our girl! They normally will put a kitten on hold for about 48 hours for everybody,
she was put on hold I think for a full week. I was working at the time and wanted to see her before she was brought home so
we had to wait for saturday to come for me to get there in time.
The ladies really really wanted us to take her because our situation was just what they wanted for
a home for this particuarly adventurous cat. They didn't want her going outside for she was a easily to sunburn kitten and
most of all she needed another active kitten as well in her home. So they held her and we ended up buying her on the saturday,
not so much because I was in love with her but because we were convinced she was the one.
The start of their relationship was definitely rocky, so much so we were both ready to take her back
after the first tow days. We weren't used to have trouble with kittens as Gamg is the ultimate adapter and loves every single
new experience.
We eventually relised that she was under the weather and took her back and found that she had cat
flu, not only that but it was a 50/50 decision earlier on in her life to put her down or not as she had cat flu very early
in her life and this can affect not only her ut contamanaite the whole cat shelter. Harsh but true.
Needless to say we are very glad they didn't put her down and are very glad to have her as part of
our little nucleus of a family. We both love her to bits.
Back to the relationship, stillm today Gamgee still is annoying to her when she is vlunerable (sleeping)
but now she is eating more and fighting back, it is great to hear her sprinting about chasing the nutty one.
